There are no positions currently available in the lab.
When positions open, they will be listed here and on the UCL Jobs portal.
We welcome enquiries from prospective students and researchers. Please read the information below before getting in touch.
PhD positions in the lab are funded through competitive grants and studentships. We are happy to discuss potential projects with motivated candidates.
Please be aware that tuition fees for international (non-UK) PhD students at UCL are approximately £38,300 per year (current fee schedule). Securing funding for these fees is extremely challenging without external support such as a government scholarship, embassy funding, or equivalent. There are some exceptions — for example, winning a UCL Research Excellence Scholarship or similar award — but these are extremely competitive. We do not encourage self-funded PhD study but are willing to discuss individual circumstances.
We also participate in joint PhD programmes that may offer additional funding routes, such as the UCL–Université Paris-Saclay joint PhD programme, which enables students to undertake their doctoral research across both institutions.
Postdoctoral positions arise when we obtain grant funding for specific projects, and are advertised on the UCL Jobs portal. We are not a large lab with rolling positions, so speculative applications cannot always be accommodated.
However, we are happy to consider co-applying for external grants with motivated individuals who would like to join the lab. We will also support strong candidates applying for personal fellowships (e.g. Marie Skłodowska-Curie, EMBO, HFSP, or equivalent) where the applicant has a highly competitive CV and a clear research proposal aligned with our programme.
We accept a small number of undergraduate and Master’s project students each year. UCL students (e.g. from the Cancer MSc or other UCL programmes) are welcome and do not pay bench fees. For students from other institutions, UCL charges bench fees of £300 per month, which must be covered by the student or their institution. International students are welcome but numbers are very limited, and students must be able to cover bench fees and their own living expenses.
We do not offer unpaid internships. All students in the lab must be enrolled on a formal degree programme.
For all enquiries about joining the lab, please email p.maciocia@ucl.ac.uk with your CV and a brief description of your research interests.
